LOS ANGELES (KTLA) — Sentencing has been delayed for the Lomita chef convicted of killing his wife and then cooking her body after he fired his attorney Tuesday.

David Viens, 49, will be sentenced February 1 and he will represent himself in the proceedings.

He is facing 15 years to life in prison.

Viens was found guilty of second-degree murder after he told detectives he boiled his dead wife, Dawn, for four days.

Dawn Viens’ body remains missing. She was last seen alive back in October 2009.

During the trial, jurors heard recordings of two interviews Viens gave to detectives from his hospital bed after jumping off a Rancho Palos Verdes cliff last year.

“I just slowly cooked it and I ended up cooking her for four days,” Viens told detectives.

He said he stuffed his wife’s lifeless body into a 55-gallon drum of boiling water and kept it submerged with weights.

Viens said he dumped some of the remains down a grease pit at their restaurant, Thyme Contemporary Cafe, on Narbonne Avenue in Lomita.

He said that he also packed some of the remains into garbage bags that he threw in a dumpster.

The only thing left, Viens told investigators, was his wife’s skull. He said he stashed it at his mother’s house.

Authorities scoured his mother’s attic, but found nothing.

During the interviews, Viens also said the couple had been fighting because he thought she’d been stealing money from the restaurant.

He said that, on the night of her death, they had used cocaine together, and she kept pestering him while he tried to sleep.

He told detectives that he taped her mouth and bound her hands and feet.

He said he’d done that twice before to keep her from “driving around wasted, whacked out on coke and drinking.”

Viens then fell asleep, and when he woke up the next morning, he said his wife was dead.

Viens’ daughter also testified that her father told her he bound her step-mother with duct tape becasue he was trying to sleep and she wouldn’t leave him alone.

She said her father told her that when he woke up four hours later, Dawn was dead.

He also apparently told his daughter that no one would ever find the body.
