HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (KTLA) — Recreational pot users might soon be able to get the drug from vending machines.

The vending machines are made by a Hollywood-based company called Medbox, Inc.

They are already available in some states where medical marijuana is legal.

In those cases, the machines require a fingerprint scan to verify the identity of the patient, which is linked to a prescription.

But now Medbox wants to adapt the machines to new laws in Colorado and Washington state that let adults use marijuana for recreation.

Growing, selling and possessing marijuana remains illegal under federal law.

I just started a petition on the White House petitions site for the Citizens Sovereign
Rights to Possesion, Cultivation, and Utilization of Cannabis( including Marijuana ),
in All Forms. Will you sign it?

We the People website allows anyone to create and sign petitions asking the Obama
Administration to take action on a range of issues. If a petition gets
enough support, the Obama Administration will issue an official response.
You can view and sign the petition here: https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/allow-c
