Man Arrested for Smuggling Pot in Shipment of Carrots

pot-carrotsSAN DIEGO — Border patrol agents arrested a Los Angeles may for allegedly trying to smuggle 310- pounds of pot hidden in a shipment of carrots.

The 29-year-old Maywood man was stopped at the Otay Mesa border crossing Wednesday night.

Agents say he was attempting to pass through with what he claimed was a large shipment of boxed carrots in the bed of the truck.

He’s facing federal charges for the attempted illegal smuggling of marijuana.

The 42 packages of pot has a street value of almost $500,000, officials said.
