DANA POINT, Calif. (KTLA) — This is turning out to be the year of the squid, as fishermen continue to enjoy a rare frenzy off the cost of Orange County.

Sportfishing boats are piling up off Dana Point, where huge schools of Humboldt squid have been feeding for several days.

Anglers are catching the squid in droves, and taking them home for dinner.

They are only allowed to catch as many as they will personally use, up to 30 per person.

The squid have been sighted from San Clemente to Newport Beach. They are feeding on an abundant amount of krill, which has also attracted whales.
