LOS ANGELES (KTLA) — DWP customers are being warned about phone scammers peddling lies about overdue bills.

LAPD and LADWP officials are expected to hold a news conference on Wednesday regarding the scam.

Officials say the suspects threaten termination of service, and instruct customers to purchase a prepaid card.

They then get the customers to fork over the card number and pin to pay their fictional bill.

At Wednesday’s news conference, authorities will describe ways to prevent being victimized by the phone scammers.
