WESTCHESTER, Calif. (KTLA) — An investigation is underway after a body was found in a burned out car Friday morning.

Authorities responded to a vehicle fire around 4:45 a.m. in the 5400 block of West 99th Street.

After the fire was put out, they discovered a burned body in the driver seat of the vehicle.

Lt. John Radtke of the LAPD said it appeared to be a hit-and-run.

Radtke said the 1992 Cadillac may have been having mechanical issues and was parked.

He believes it may have burst into flames after being struck by another vehicle.

Whoever hit the vehicle did not stop to assist or stay to talk to investigators.

The crash is now being investigated as a homicide.

The LAPD has not released the name of the man whose body was discovered in the vehicle.
