SUN VALLEY, Calif. (KTLA) – A fire ripped through Sun Valley High School Sunday afternoon, causing hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage.

Dozens of firefighters responded to the fire, which broke out around 1 p.m. at the school located in the 9000 block of Telfair Avenue.

Firefighters knocked down the fire in about 25 minutes, but much damage had already been done.

“The property damage is about $500,000 to the building, about $250,000 worth of damage to the contents of the building,” said Battalion Chief Kurt Klasta, of the L.A. City Fire Department.

The fire began in an audio/video storage room and spread to two classrooms used by art and film students.

The cause was not immediate known, but firefighters said that they did not believe it was arson.

Despite the fire, classes were scheduled to go on as usual Monday.
