At LAX and across the nation — American Airlines passengers are still being re-booked on flights… After the entire airline was grounded for several hours today by the FAA.

Sometime around 10:00 this morning… A major computer malfunction in the American Airlines system turned into long lines of frustrated passengers in American’s terminal at LAX.

Some passengers told us they’d been told by airline employees that the reservations system was going haywire — which lead to so many glitches that the Federal Aviation Administration ordered the entire airline grounded.

Which means planes not flying were held at gates — often for hours…

“They just said that all the flights are canceled. It’s very frustrating,” David Usdan who’s headed to New York.

By 2pm… The computer system was apparently coming back up… And most American passengers had been re-booked on later flights.

But out at the boarding gates… Many planes were still being delayed.

Eventually… American jets were taking off from LAX — as they were all over the country.

LAX spokesperson Nancy Castles has some good advice for travelers — on any day….

“What we always advise travelers to do is to call ahead or check with the airline’s website before arriving at the airport.
