Burglary Suspect Flees to Rooftop in Venice

VENICE, Calif. (KTLA) — A burglary suspect was arrested Friday morning after holding police at bay on the roof of an apartment building in Venice.

venice-roofIt all began just after 6 a.m. with police chasing the suspect through streets and yards in the area.

He went into a three-story building in the 600 block of 6th Street, near Sunset Avenue, and made his way up onto the roof.

He laid down for a time with his shirt off and a cigarette in his mouth. He then got up and was walking around the roof.

SWAT officers were called to the scene. The suspect’s family was also reportedly there trying to get him to surrender.

The man finally came down around 9:20 a.m. and was taken into custody without incident.
