LOS ANGELES (KTLA) — Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies fatally shot a motorist Friday afternoon after alleged hit an officer with her car.

It happened around 2:45 p.m. in the 11400 block of South Vermont Avenue.

Authorities say deputies were investigating a possible kidnapping when the incident occurred.

“The suspect’s vehicle first struck a parked car and then struck a deputy,” Sheriff spokesman Steve Whitmore told the L.A. Times.

Fearing for their safety, deputies shot the suspect, he said.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

The deputy was rushed to Harbor UCLA.

He was later released.
