VALLEY GLEN, Calif. (KTLA) — A family is asking for the public’s help tracking down a hit-and-run driver who killed their son while he was out riding his bike.

18-year-old David Granados was struck by an SUV on March 24 while riding home from a friend’s house.

Surveillance video just released by police shows a light-colored Mercedes SUV running a red light at Oxnard Street and Bellaire Avenue in Valley Glen.

Investigators say the driver was traveling at least 50 mph and never slowed down.

The driver is described as a middle-aged, heavy-set white man. Police say his SUV sustained damage to the front end.

Granados was a senior at Grant High School, and he had just celebrated his 18th birthday.

After the accident, he was rushed to the hospital, where he died two days later.

“It’s so inhumane how they didn’t help a person,” relatives told KTLA.

A memorial with flowers and candles remains at the scene of the accident, one month later.

On Tuesday, the Granados family plans to go to the L.A. City Council to ask them for a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the driver.

Anyone with information is urged to call the LAPD at (818) 644-8063.
