YORBA LINDA (KTLA) — Authorities were on alert on Saturday after a possible child annoyance or attempted child abduction occurred at a park in Yorba Linda.

An adult with black pants and a black hoodie was spotted next to an 11-year-old autistic girl on a playground at Veteran’s Park on May 7, sheriff’s deputies said.

The girl had wandered away from her father, who was watching his son play soccer.

The adult, whose gender is unidentified, ran away when the girl’s name was called, a Sheriff’s Department statement said.

“Due to the suspicious nature of that activity, we have an ongoing investigation looking into it,”  said Lt. Joe Balicki of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

Authorities are asking the public to report suspicious activity right after it happens, rather than waiting several days as was done in this case.
