HAWTHORNE, Calif. (KTLA) — Two people were killed when a big rig struck a disabled vehicle on the 405 Freeway in Hawthorne on Friday, authorities said.
It happened around 2:50 a.m. on the southbound 405 at the Rosecrans off-ramp, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A big rig hit a disabled car containing two occupants, described as a man in his 20s and a woman in her 30s, CHP officials said.
They were both declared dead at the scene.
The big rig overturned on the off-ramp after the crash. The driver was transported to the hospital with critical injuries.
The ramp and the right lanes were closed while crews worked to upright the big rig and clear the scene.
