MALIBU, Calif. (KTLA) — The Malibu City Council approved a plan that allows volunteers to write citations for cars parked illegally, city officials said Sunday.
The volunteers were trained and registered with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
About ten volunteers were currently authorized to issue only warning citations, but they will be handing out real tickets by mid-summer, officials added.
Some Malibu property owners post illegal “no parking” signs to prevent tourists from accessing the beach, according to opponents of the new policy.
