Nissan unveils $7,000 Datsun in India

A new ultra-cheap Datsun model was unveiled Monday in New Delhi as part of parent company Nissan’s push into emerging markets.

The car will be the first to carry the Datsun badge since Nissan (NSANF) mothballed the brand in the 1980s.

The new five-door hatchback is called the Datsun Go, and it will go on sale early next year in India.

The car will be priced below 400,000 Indian rupees ($6,680 dollars).

The car is designed to compete against other low-cost options in developing markets, where growth for private transport is accelerating.
