South L.A. Neighborhood Locked Down After Officer-Involved Shooting

LOS ANGELES (KTLA) – A South Los Angeles neighborhood was briefly placed on lockdown Sunday morning while police officers searched for a gunman, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The incident started when police received a call of a man with a gun at an Arco gas station at West 54th Street and Normandie Avenue, the LAPD said.

Two officers who were in the area responded at about 1 a.m. and told the man to drop his weapon.

The gunman refused police orders and shot at officers, prompting police to return fire, the LAPD said.

No officers were hurt. It’s unknown if the gunman was injured.

The man took off running and got away. His shotgun was recovered the gas station.
