Man Killed in South L.A. Police Shooting

SOUTH LOS ANGELES (KTLA) — A man has died after being shot by police who were responding to reports of gunfire in a South Los Angeles neighborhood Tuesday.

South-LA-OisThe shooting took place around 9:30 a.m. in the 4100 block of South Normandie Avenue.

Responding officers encountered a man, said to be in his 70s, armed with a gun in the back yard of the home and a shooting occurred, LAPD Cmdr. Andy Smith said.

The man was transported to the hospital where he later died, Smith said.

A woman in her 70s was found on the property with a gunshot wound to her ear.

She was also taken to the hospital and was reported to be in stable condition. She was expected to be OK, according to Smith.

The relationship between the man and woman was unclear.

No officers were injured in the shooting.
