ORANGE, Calif. (KTLA) — A 7-year-old boy who told police he escaped a kidnapping attempt by yelling “stranger danger” apparently made up the story because he was scared to tell his dad the truth.

The boy was on his bike Monday evening in the 800 block of North Batavia Street in Orange when he apparently knocked some boxes over after riding into the open garage of a nearby business, police said.

The business owner was upset and yelled at the boy.

Instead of telling his father what had happened, the boy made up the story of a stranger trying to abduct him.

He originally told police that a man grabbed him off his bike.
