SANTA ANA, Calif. (KTLA) — The son of a veteran firefighter was charged with arson Tuesday in connection with several fires started in Yorba Linda and Anaheim.
Gabriel Michael Castillo, 19, was charged with five felony counts of arson of a forest, three felony counts of arson of another’s property, and one felony count of receiving stolen property.
Castillo was allegedly spotted on Aug. 19 driving his Ford SUV close to the scene of five brush fires, two of which were set in Anaheim and and three in Yorba Linda, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
Later that day, authorities found the SUV with a stolen watch and mobile phone inside, according to the DA’s office.
Castillo was arrested Sunday at his home in Anaheim Hills, Orange County Sheriff’s officials said.
He has also been accused of setting three car fires between May 29 and May 31.
If convicted on all counts, Castillo would face a maximum sentence of 13 years and eight months in state prison.
Castillo is the son of an 18 year veteran OCFA Firefighter stationed in the city of Santa Ana.
