Seal Beach Approves Moratorium on E-Cigarette Vendors

SEAL BEACH, Calif. (KTLA) — The Seal Beach City Council on Monday unanimously approved a 45-day ban on e-cigarette vendors.

electronic-cigarette-2Electronic cigarettes, which emit a water vapor rather than smoke, have been growing in popularity among as an alternative to traditional tobacco-based cigarettes.

Although aficionados say e-cigarette are a healthier alternative, officials in Seal Beach want more time to examine whether the devices pose any dangerous health effects.

The moratorium prohibits any new smoke shop or drug paraphernalia retailer from selling electronic cigarettes for the next 45 days. The temporary ban may be extended for two years.
