8 Students Suffer Heat Exhaustion During Irwindale Track Meet

IRWINDALE, Calif. (KTLA) — Eight student athletes were rushed to the hospital Saturday after suffering heat exhaustion, authorities said.

The students, who ranged in age from 13 to 16, became ill during the Don Bosco Invitational track meet at the Santa Fe Dam Recreation Area, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.


Eight student athletes running in an Irwindale track meet were taken to the hospital with heat exhaustion.

The students began to collapse near the finish line of a three-mile cross country race.

The event started at 8 a.m. and was scheduled to be completed by 10 a.m.

Emergency medical technicians were stationed along the course in case of an emergency.

The temperature in Irwindale at the time of the meet was 107 degrees.
