Off-Duty La Habra Police Officer Shot During Traffic Altercation

An off-duty La Habra police officer was shot during a traffic altercation Saturday in Castaic, authorities said.


Investigators were looking for a man who shot an off-duty La Habra police officer after an altercation on the Golden State (5) Freeway in Castaic on Oct. 5, 2013.

The incident happened on the Golden State (5) Freeway at Templin Highway around 5:00 a.m., according to the La Habra Police Department.

The officer stopped after a traffic collision and was involved in some type of physical altercation with the other party, police said.

During the fight, the other man grabbed the officer’s gun, and shot the officer in the arm.

The man then took off with the gun, according to La Habra police.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is assisting with the investigation.

The officer’s injuries were not life threatening.
