Pedestrian Struck and Killed by Buena Park Police Cruiser

An investigation was underway Saturday after a police cruiser struck and killed a pedestrian in Buena Park, authorities said.

Shortly after midnight, the pedestrian was struck near Orangethorpe Ave. and Oregon Street, according to Buena Park police.

It appeared the victim was lying in the road, police said.

The officer saw an object in the road and tried to swerve, but it was too late.

Buena Park police asked the California Highway Patrol to lead the investigation.

The officer was not injured.
