Eleven-year-old Elijah Allen died after collapsing at Vista Heights Middle School on Tuesday.

The Riverside County coroner identified the boy as Elijah Allen, 11, of Moreno Valley.

Elijah was playing touch football during lunch recess at Vista Heights Middle School when he collapsed at about 12:20 p.m. on Tuesday, according to officials.

Members of the school’s staff were performing CPR on Elijah when Riverside County sheriff’s deputies arrived.

Elijah was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

The cause of death was not immediately determined, but Elijah did have a medical condition that may have contributed to his death, investigators said.

Grief counselors were on campus to help students and staff, according to a member of the faculty.
