Husband of Montebello Mayor Charged With Selling Meth Near School

The husband of Montebello Mayor Christina Cortez has been charged with selling methamphetamine blocks away from a local middle school, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office announced Thursday.

Ruben Guerrero, 44, faces six felony counts for dealing and┬átransporting the drug, and he could face up to 11 years in state prison, the DA’s office stated.

Prosecutors alleged in a court document that Guerrero sold methamphetamine within 1,000 feet of Montebello Intermediate School multiple times throughout September and October.

Guerrero was first taken into custody on Oct. 17 at his Montebello home, which he owns with Cortez, according to the Los Angeles Times. He was released the next day on $60,000 bail.

Guerrero’s arraignment is scheduled for Nov. 4.┬áProsecutors will request that his bail be set at $120,000.
