A man was taken into custody Friday morning after allegedly holding his mother hostage with a weapon at a home in Pico Rivera, authorities said. A deputy-involved shooting preceded the standoff.

Sky 5 video showed a woman, apparently unharmed, being escorted from the house by law-enforcement officials. Shortly afterward, deputies and SWAT team members brought the handcuffed man out of the house and led him to patrol vehicle.

The incident unfolded at the home near the intersection of Rosemead Boulevard and Slauson Avenue, where the man reportedly used a knife or a hammer to hold the woman captive.

Anti-law-enforcement expletives had been spray-painted in large letters on sheets and on the driveway at the scene.

It was not immediately known if the shooting resulted in any injuries.
