Five Car Pile-Up Shuts Down Southbound 170 Freeway

A crash involving as many as 5 vehicles forced the closure of all southbound lanes on the 170 Freeway in North Hollywood on Friday night.

The multi-vehicle accident was reported just after 8:30 p.m. between Laurel Canyon Boulevard and Oxnard Street (map).

Seven people were injured in the crash, some of whom had to be extricated from their vehicles, according to Erik Scott of L.A. City Fire.

At least three people were transported in critical condition, Scott said. A fourth person with non-life-threatening injuries was also taken to the hospital.

Three others were treated at the scene and released, Scott said.

The all southbound lanes were reopened around 9:45 p.m.

The cause of the crash was still being investigated.
