Man Wanted for Carjacking Killed in Officer-Involved Shooting on Rooftop

A man being pursued by police in Long Beach was shot and killed during a foot pursuit Tuesday, authorities said.

At around 2:30 a.m., officers pulled the man over during a traffic stop at Walnut Avenue and 3rd Street, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

The man then took off running, police said.

Officers interviewed the passengers in the car and determined the man who ran away was wanted in connection with a carjacking in Los Angeles, Long Beach police said.

Officers then pursued the man and located him on a rooftop at 4th Street and Nebraska Avenue.

At that point the man was fatally shot during an officer-involved shooting, police said.

The shooting is under investigation.
