Several students could be seen walking around the campus in Torrance, wearing maroon colored sweatshirts in honor of Valentina.

“It was… her favorite color, so everybody thought we should wear maroon.  It’s also our school color,” Vince Perez, a student at the school told KTLA 5.

Valentina died Saturday morning in Wilmington, when the red 2005 Ford Mustang in which she was a passenger collided with a silver vehicle, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The crash occurred around 2:00 a.m. at the intersection of Anaheim Street and Avalon Boulevard (map), the LAPD said.

The teenager had been sitting in the backseat and was ejected from the Mustang when it crashed, according to the LAPD.

She was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

There were four teenagers inside the Mustang, and one person in the other vehicle, which flipped over during the collision, witnesses said.

The Mustang was traveling at a high rate of speed and failed to stop at a red light, according to Sgt. Jeremy Duncan with the South Traffic Division of the LAPD.

Four others were injured in the collision and taken to area hospitals, the LAPD said. Their injuries were not life-threatening.
