A passerby found the injured UCLA graduate, identified as David Pregerson, lying in some bushes in the 900 block of Chatauqua Boulevard at about 4 a.m. on Friday, according to Sgt. Stephanie Krajchir of the Los Angeles Police Department.

Pregerson appeared to have been hit by a car, but no one involved in the incident stayed behind or called 911, according to police.

The young man, whose father and grandfather are federal court judges, was taken to UCLA Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition. He later died on Dec. 31 of his injuries.

Pregerson had recently begun working on the Web-based soap opera series “The Bay,” according to a report in the Los Angeles Times.

He was the son of U.S. District Court Judge Dean Pregerson and grandson of U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Harry Pregerson, the Times reported.

Anyone with information was urged to contact police at 213-473-0234.
