Officers responded to an alley in the 900 block of East Holt Avenue (map) at 2:20 a.m. after receiving a 911 call about a person who was shot, according to a news release from the Pomona Police Department.

Police found the 18-year-old shooting victim and pronounced him dead at the scene, officials said. His name was being withheld pending notification of family members.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim and another person were apparently tagging several buildings in the area, when they were confronted by two unknown men regarding the spray-painting, according to the news release.

One of the men pulled out a gun and shot the victim several times, authorities said.

The shooting appeared to be gang related, according to police.
