The collision occurred at 12:20 p.m. Tuesday in downtown L.A. near the intersection of Second and Spring streets (map) as the vehicle was heading eastbound.

The woman walked out from between two vehicles and was not in the crosswalk when she collided with the mayor’s black SUV, which is part of his regular security detail, according to Los Angeles Police Department Lt. Andy Neiman.

On Wednesday, Garcetti met with Juliet Nicolas. After his visit, Garcetti released a statement which read, “I had the pleasure of meeting Juliet Nicolas this morning at LA County + USC Medical Center. We had a nice conversation and I am very pleased that she is in good spirits. I wish her a speedy recovery.”

Garcetti was on the phone and “did not witness the incident,” according to a statement from the mayor’s office.
