‘Friendly’ Bomb Narrowly Misses U.S. Soldiers in Afghanistan

Video was just released of a U.S. military aircraft accidentally dropping a 500 pound bomb on an American outpost in Afghanistan.

soldier-bombThe aircrew thought they were targeting a group of Taliban fighters, but the bomb hit the U.S. outpost instead.

A camera strapped to a soldier’s helmet was rolling when the explosion rocked the barracks.

An investigation determined the aircrew had the wrong coordinates, according to CNN.

“This was a major mistake from a targeting perspective,” retired U.S. Air Force Col. Cedric Leighton told CNN. “The way targeting works is you have to get the coordinates right,” he said.

Investigators determined that the incident an accident. No one was injured.
