Officers from the Gardena Police Department responded about 12:02 p.m. Monday to the 15500 block of Ruthelen Street (map) regarding a residential burglary call, according to a news release issued by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

When the officers arrived, two people sped away from the location in a red vehicle.

“The suspect vehicle then collided, several houses away, with a marked Gardena Police Department vehicle,” the release said.

According to authorities, officers chased one of the red vehicle’s occupants, who ran into a backyard, where an officer-involved shooting occurred.

The injured male was transported to a hospital, where he was listed in unknown condition.

No other details were immediately available.

Sheriff’s homicide detectives were investigating the incident.

Anyone with information was encouraged to contact the Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500.
