Jeffrey Yoshitake, 42, of Monterey Park was booked Friday on one felony count of lewd acts with a child, according to Lt. Bill Cuevas of the Monterey Park Police Department.

Yoshitake was released on $100,000 bail, and was scheduled to be arraigned May 5 in Alhambra Superior Court.

Yoshitake, who has taught at Garfield Elementary School for about 15 years, was the alleged victim’s math teacher, Cuevas said.

The instructor allegedly kept in touch with the girl and began a sexual relationship with her when she was 15. The relationship reportedly ended in 2012.

The girl, who is now in her mid-20s, notified police about the relationship on Thursday, according to Cuevas.

Anyone with information was asked to call the Monterey Park Police Department at 626-307-1236.
