Oxnard Intruder Flees After Girl, 8, Screams: Police

A man who broke into an Oxnard mobile home fled after an 8-year-old girl began screaming when he placed a rag over her mouth, authorities said.

Officers responded to the Colony Mobile Home Park in the 2400 block of East Pleasant Valley Road (map) around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday after receiving a report of a prowler, according to a news release from the Oxnard Police Department.

The man had gained access to the home by cutting the screen to an open window, police said.

Once inside, he placed a rag over a sleeping girl’s mouth, the release stated.  She woke up and began screaming for her parents.

The man then fled the home out of the open bedroom window, police said.

The girl was not injured.

Detectives were investigating the incident. Anyone with information was asked to contact the Oxnard Police Department at 805-385-7620. Those wishing to remain anonymous were urged to call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
