Boy Hit By Truck in Santa Ana; Driver Arrested on Suspicion of DUI

A female driver was taken into custody after she allegedly ran a red light and struck a 10-year-old boy in Santa Ana Sunday night, police said.

The child was hit by a 2008 Ford F-150 truck at the intersection of 17th Street and Cabrillo Park (map) around 6:45 p.m., according to Cmdr. Enrique Esparza of the Santa Ana Police Department.

The boy was taken to a hospital in critical condition, Esparza said.

The driver, identified as 33-year-old Suray Leon of Santa Ana, was arrested on suspicion of DUI and booked at Santa Ana Central Jail, according to Esparza.

She was being held on $100,000 bail, Orange County inmate records showed.
