Just days after being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, wrestling fans were stunned Tuesday by the death of the Ultimate Warrior.

The Ultimate Warrior appears in an undated photo released by WWE as part of its statement on April 8, 2014, regarding the wrestler’s death.

WWE officials confirmed the wrestler’s passing in a statement posted on its website.

“WWE is shocked and deeply saddened to learn of the passing of one of the most iconic WWE Superstars ever, The Ultimate Warrior.  Warrior began his WWE career in 1987 and quickly went on to become one of the biggest stars in WWE history. Warrior became WWE Champion at WrestleMania VI, defeating Hulk Hogan in an epic encounter.”

The 54-year-old wrestler was survived by his wife Dana and two daughters, according to the WWE.
