A male juvenile walked into a restroom at Polliwog Park (map) about 2:09 p.m. Friday when he was accosted by a man who forced him into a stall and fondled the boy’s genitals, the Manhattan Beach Police Department said in a statement. The victim fled the restroom and reported the incident to a parent.

The man is described as white, in his 40s, with grey hair and a medium build, wearing a white shirt and dark-colored pants.

Earlier in the week, about 8 p.m. Wednesday, a 13-year-old boy was walking into a restroom at Valley Park (map) when he was physically overpowered and sexually assaulted by a man, according to a statement from the Hermosa Beach Police Department. The victim reported the assault on Thursday.

The man in that incident is described as white, in his 30s, clean-cut and about 6 feet tall.

Polliwog Park and Valley Park are about two miles apart. The assaults at the two locations may be related, Manhattan Beach police said.

Authorities declined to release any further information regarding both investigations due to the nature of the alleged crimes and the involvement of minors.

“We have plainclothes officers and uniformed police officers who have stepped up the enforcement and patrol of all our parks,” said Hermosa Beach police Sgt. Robert Higgins.

“We’re asking folks in the city to be extra vigilant in light of the occurrences recently,” he said. “If there’s a question about what you’re seeing, call 911, let us know and we’ll come check it out.”

Anyone with information was urged to contact Detective Traci Navarrette of the Manhattan Beach Police Department at (310) 802-5125, or Detective Dean Garkow of the Hermosa Beach Police Department at 310-318-0348.
