Joshua Licon, 28, and Nereyda Licon, 32, were each charged with one count of murder in the boy’s death.

Joshua Licon also pleaded not guilty to one misdemeanor count of disobeying a court imposed restraining order, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

The baby was found unresponsive by emergency personnel responding to a hotel room in the 200 block of South Pine Avenue on May 30, 2013, the release stated.

The infant, identified in the complaint as Joshua L. Jr., had been significantly undernourished, which contributed to his death, prosecutors said.

The defendants were being held on $1 million bail.

They were both due back in court for a preliminary hearing on May 12.

If convicted, Joshua Licon faced a maximum possible sentence of 16 years to life in state prison and Nereyda Licon faced a 15 years to life sentence, the release stated.
