Two Ontario men died Sunday when the car in which they were traveling ran off the road on Mount Baldy and tumbled down an embankment, authorities said.

The driver, 22-year-old Sergio O. Partida, and a passenger, 21-year-old Andrew S. Barrios, were heading westbound on Glendora Ridge Road in a 2002 Acura when the crash occurred, according to a news release issued by the California Highway Patrol. The time of the incident was unknown.

Partida and Barrios were the only two occupants of the vehicle when, “for reasons still under investigation, Barrios lost control of the Acura as he was negotiating a left curve in the roadway” west of Mount Baldy Road, the news release said.

The car continued moving “in a westerly direction,” through a dirt turnout and down the embankment, overturning several times, the CHP said.

Although the driver and passenger were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, both were ejected from the vehicle and sustained major trauma, according to authorities.

Investigators were trying to determine wether alcohol or drugs were a factor in the incident.
