This Memorial Day weekend had special meaning for the family of a Kansas soldier killed in action more than a decade ago.

Staff Sgt. Vince Sabasteanski was one of seven men killed in a helicopter crash in 1999. He left behind his wife, his son and his 1997 Dodge Ram truck.

This weekend, his son Nicholas thought he was just attending a memorial service for his dad. But then, he was surprised with a gift: his father’s truck, completely restored.

The truck was recently shipped to Kansas City, but Nicholas had no idea he was getting it until he was handed the keys during the service.

“It’s really cool to see this many people gathered together for my dad and various other recon marines,” he said.
