Man Dies After Officer Involved Shooting at Newport Beach 7-Eleven

A man died after he was shot by police officers during an altercation at a 7-Eleven in Newport Beach, according to the Newport Beach Police Department.

Police responded to a call about a disturbance at 1495 Superior Ave. (map) around 8:15 p.m. Thursday, Jennifer Manzella with the department said.

When officers tried to break up an altercation between an employee and a man, the man charged at the officers with a sharp metal instrument, according to a news release from the department.

The man was transported to Western Medical Trauma Center and died in the evening hours.

His name was being withheld pending identification from the coroner’s office.

No officers were injured during the incident, the release stated.
