22 Tons of Illegal Fireworks Seized From Warehouse in Gardena

The discovery of 22 tons of fireworks at a warehouse in Gardena has led to multiple arrests, authorities announced on Wednesday.

Detectives searched the warehouse in the 13000 block of Halldale Avenue (map) on Tuesday as part of an investigation into the alleged sale and distribution of illegal fireworks, a news release from the El Monte Police Department stated.

Six people were taken into custody and about 22 tons of illegal fireworks were found inside the warehouse, according to the Police Department.

The fireworks had an estimated street value of $400,000, according to investigators.

Police had initially estimated the amount of fireworks at 18 tons.

The investigation was conducted by detectives from the El Monte Police Department in conjunction with the Los Angeles County Fire Department, the news release stated.

The Gardena Police Department was assisting detectives at the scene.
