Underground Vault Explosion Knocks Out Power to The Grove, Farmers Market

An underground vault explosion in Fairfax knocked out power to The Grove and Farmers Market Friday morning.

The blast was reported at about 8:29 a.m. in the 6300 block of West Third Street (map), according to Katherine Main of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The explosion left The Grove and Farmers Market without power, according to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.

About 1,000 customers also lost power due to the blast, the LADWP stated.

Several lanes on West Third Street were closed as investigators peered into an uncovered manhole in the middle of the road, aerial video from Sky5 showed.

No one appeared to have been injured in the incident, Main said.

Power was restored to the majority of customers before 10:30 a.m., according to the LADWP.
