A 2-year-old amputee from New Jersey received an outpouring of support after a video of him learning to walk was viewed by thousands of people.
Kayden Elijah Kinckle could be heard saying “I got it” as he held a walker and took several steps in a video posted by his mother on July 4, YouTube user Nikki Sessoms.
The video received more than 22,000 views as of Tuesday and had been shared by many, including Philadelphia Eagles NFL player Michael Vick.
Kinckle’s right foot and left left were amputated because of multiple problems he faced during Nikki’s pregnancy, she stated in the video post.
Doctors warned Nikki that the boy had omphalocele, a defect in the abdominal wall which causes the multiple organs to remain outside the body.
Nikki’s umbilical cord was also wrapped around Kinckle’s feet, pinning them under her pelvic bone.
“The doctors stated he would not survive and suggested I terminate my pregnancy, even the ultrasound techs agreed saying that he would either be stillborn or wouldn’t make it through the repair surgery,” Nikke stated.
Kinckle’s mother continued with the pregnancy, and he faced fewer issues after birth than doctors expected.
The young boy’s spine and mental ability was fine, but he had to undergo the amputation, Nikki stated.
“This video is really more than the first steps,” Nikke stated. “We celebrate his life as well and every step he takes will be to glorify God. We want the whole world to know his testimony.”
Nikki asked that anyone who wants a “TeamKayden” wristband or T-shirt email her at firstname.lastname@example.org or contact his Facebook page.
