A 12-year-old girl who was pulled not breathing from a motel pool in the Hollywood area, alongside her mother and brother, has died, police said Tuesday.
The unidentified child died following the Aug. 4 near-drowning, but her 11-year-old bother was in stable condition, according to Los Angeles Police Department Officer Sally Madera.
The mother of the two children remained in serious condition, Madera said.
Madera did not know what time the girl had died.
The 36-year-old mother had spotted two of four children in “extreme distress” in the deep water of the 7 1/2 foot deep pool at the Hollywood Premiere Motel in the afternoon of Aug. 4, the Los Angeles Fire Department announced at the time.
Though she could not swim, she jumped into the pool in street clothes, according to the Fire Department.
A good Samaritan passerby pulled the threesome from the water and worked to resuscitate them until firefighters arrived.
All three were transported to the hospital in grave condition after being found pulseless and not breathing.
The woman’s two other children had stayed in the shallow end of the pool and were not harmed, the Fire Department stated. A man believed to be the children’s father was inconsolable at the side of the pool after ambulances left.
Two days later, the boy was breathing on his own, the Los Angeles Times reported. The mother and sister were on life support at the time, police told the newspaper.
