Attempted Murder Suspect Detained in Simi Valley After Hourslong Search
A man wanted on suspicion of attempted murder was detained in Simi Valley Friday night following an hourslong search in which police asked residents not to leave their homes.
After a traffic stop was attempted near Alscot Avenue and Anastasia Street (map), Alvarenga exited the vehicle and fled on foot toward a residential neighborhood.
Residents were asked not to leave their homes and people were told not to come near the area during the search for Alvarenga, the police department stated on Twitter.
Alvarenga was later located in the attached garage of a home in the 2000 block of Cheam Avenue (map).
“The police department thanks the citizens of Simi Valley for assisting by keeping the search area clear of excessive traffic during incidents such as this,” the department stated around 10:30 p.m.
Alvarenga was able to enter the garage because it was unlocked.
“Although this incident resulted in the suspect being arrested without having entered the residence attached to the unlocked garage, this arrest should be a reminder to Simi Valley resident’s to keep their homes locked and secured,” department’s the news release stated.
Alvarenga was booked at a Ventura County jail for an outstanding warrant.
The California Highway Patrol, Los Angeles Police Department helicopters, and two K-9 search teams were used in the search.
