Man Found Dead in Trunk of Car at Riverside Wal-Mart ID’d, Autopsy Completed
Police on Monday identified the man whose body was discovered inside the trunk of a woman’s car at a Riverside Wal-Mart parking lot over the weekend.
It was not immediately clear how Miguel Angel Perez, a 33-year-old Pomona resident, died, according to a news release from the Pomona Police Department.
Perez’s body was discovered by a woman Saturday afternoon when she stopped at a Riverside Wal-Mart after work.
The woman told authorities she detected a foul odor coming from her 1999 Lexus, parked the car outside the store, and found the body when she opened up the trunk.
An autopsy performed Monday morning by the Riverside County Coroner’s Office did not immediately indicate a cause of death.
There were no “obvious signs of trauma” on Perez’s body, and the department was awaiting the results of further testing to determine how the victim died, the release stated.
The driver knew Perez from her Pomona neighborhood, police said in the release. It was believed that the body was already in the trunk when she drove to work in Riverside that day.
The vehicle’s owner was cooperating with police and is not considered a suspect, the release stated.
An investigation into Perez’s death is ongoing, and anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Pomona Police Department’s Detective Bureau at 909-620-2085.
