Los Angeles County coroner officials on Saturday identified a young man who was fatally shot by a Long Beach police officer.

The victim, who died Friday in a home in the South Wrigley area, was identified as 18-year-old Carey Smith-Viramontes of Long Beach.

An officer went to the home in the 2300 block of Eucalyptus Avenue in response to a report of a missing young girl, according to a statement from the Long Beach Police Department.

The officer learned the girl was inside the house with a young man with whom she once had a relationship.
